Stellan doesn’t love you; Jack loves you

Untitled-4

Yesterday was the official release of Maggie Hall’s MAP OF FATES, the sequel to the amazing THE CONSPIRACY OF US. MAP OF FATES picks up right where the first book left off, following Avery West as she adapts to her new role in the secret society known as the Circle. Helping Avery race to the rescue of her missing mother, once again we have Jack and Stellan. Avery’s got some big choices ahead and the biggest of all might be which boy will truly win her heart.

So also yesterday, my book BFF and blogger extraordinaire, Riki Cleveland, took to the interwebs to explain why she’s now firmly over on #TeamStellan. Normally, I wouldn’t dare argue with Riki. She’s a super-talented writer, an astonishingly prolific reader and a rad book publicist. But sadly, in this instance, she’s also very, very wrong.

Here Are Three Reasons Why #TeamJack Rules forever:

1 – Let’s remember how we got here, people!
Can we just talk for a second about how in THE CONSPIRACY OF US it was Jack who arrived first in Lakehaven, MN? Avery was busy sketching Jack’s sexy tattoo long before she runs into Stellan in that crosswalk. And it’s Jack who rescues Avery at the prom while Stellan is so busy being Euro-cool. As Avery searches for Mr. Emerson and gets a grip on her destiny, Jack is with her every step of the way. Stellan is off doing…something else?

2 – Good guys shouldn’t finish last
MAP OF FATES begins with Jack and Avery deciding to stick to being friends for a while – at least until Avery is out of mortal danger. Basically the only reason Jack didn’t try to convince Avery to elope in between books one and two is that he’s so concerned for her well-being. I don’t want to get all spoiler-y here so I won’t talk in too much detail, but Jack’s stubborn determination to keep Avery safe is what creates that space that Stellan uses to become a wedge between the two of them. Jack is the good guy who cares the most deeply about Avery.

3 – Stellan might be willing to give Avery everything, but Jack is willing to give up everything for her
From the very beginning Jack has been ready and willing to make all kinds of sacrifices for Avery. He was willing to give up his position with the Saxons and be defiant and disloyal to the people who’d been his de facto family for most of his life. Again, I don’t want to have any spoilers here, but let’s just say the end of MAP OF FATES makes it clear exactly how Jack is willing to put his self and ego aside for Avery’s sake.

What about you? Are you on #TeamStellan? Or #TeamJack?

ABOUT MAP OF FATES

Two weeks.

That’s how long it took for Avery West’s ordinary life to change forever: In two weeks, she discovered she was heiress to a powerful secret society known as the Circle, learned her mother was taken hostage by the Circle’s enemies, and fell for a boy she’s not allowed to love, just as she found out another was her unwelcome destiny.

Now, Avery crosses oceans in private jets to hunt for clues that will uncover the truth about the Circle, setting her mom and herself free before it’s too late. By her side are both the boys: Jack—steady, loyal, and determined to help her even at the expense of his own duty—and Stellan, whose connection to Avery grows stronger by the day despite her best intentions, making her question what she believes at every turn.

But at the end of a desperate hunt from the islands of Greece to the red carpet at Cannes comes a discovery that not only changes everything, but could bring the whole world to its knees. And now Avery is forced to face the truth: in the world of the Circle, no one is what they seem.
